Rush-Ryan seniors
The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met June 8 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 42 members in attendance. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business meeting. Chaplain Kathleen Valentine offered an invocation.
Reports were presented by secretary Florina Martin. Birthday greetings were offered to Helene Clouser.
Carmen and Alberta Corch were congratulated on their 60 wedding anniversary.
Florina Martin provided inspirational readings.
The group meets the second and fourth Monday of every month. Anyone 50 or older is welcome to join.
Recycling
Wednesday is the day for curbside recycling pickup for all residents of Tamaqua.
All recyclable items must be placed in the containers issued to each borough household. Any other containers, such as plastic bags and cardboard boxes, will be emptied and left behind.
Anyone who needs a recycling container may contact borough hall at (570) 668-3444.
Collection bins for cardboard have been moved to the Tamaqua Transfer Station on Sewage Treatment Plant Road.
Collection bins for newspaper can be found at the Tamaqua Borough Garage on East Broad Street.
First Methodist
Congregants of First and Salem United Methodist Churches will have a glimpse of the church's 18th century heritage this Sunday, during a combined service at 9:30 a.m. in Salem UMC.
Stuart Thody, a retired elder from the UMC New York Church Conference will officiate at the worship service.
John Wesley will arrive in full 18th century garb and provide the story of the church's faith heritage.
All are welcome to attend in their best 18th century attire. The service will be followed by a coffee fellowship.
Activities for next week include: Monday, Board of Trustees meeting at 6 p.m. and Administrative Council meeting at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, Quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.
St. Jerome's
The St. Jerome's Finance Committee will meet June 29, at 7 p.m.
The St. Vincent DePaul Society will meet this Thursday, at 7 p.m., in the alumni room. New members are always welcome.
Vacation Bible School, for children 4 years of age to those in second grade, will be held June 21-25, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Older students, grades three through five, will have Vacation Bible School the week of June 28 to July 1. For more information, or to register, call (570) 668-4416.

The South Ward Neighborhood Committee will meet this Thursday, at 7 p.m., at the manager office, 230 Race St. New members are always welcome.
