Summer lunch

The South Ward Playground Association is conducting a free summer lunch program for all local children up to and including the age of 18. Lunches are served weekdays, from noon to 1 p.m., at the South Ward Playground.

The program is an off shoot of the free school lunch program, with funding provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The non-discriminatory program is open to all children regardless of race, origin, religion, etc. In addition to a healthy lunch, participants will be offered a variety of summer activities.

The playground is located between Penn and Race streets in Tamaqua's South Ward.

Band concert

The Cressona Band will perform in concert on July, at 7 p.m., at the East End Playground. This event is free and open to the public.

The Cressona Band performs show tunes, marches, overtures and music of yesteryear.

The playground is located along Mountain Avenue. Rain date will be July 15.

Class of 1970

The Tamaqua High School Class of 1970 will hold a reunion in celebration of its 40th anniversary. The event will be held Sept. 11, from 6-11 p.m., at the Tamaqua Elks. The evening will include a buffet meal, cash bar and music. Dress will be informal.

St. John's Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis J. Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church. In recognition of Father's Day, all men in attendance will be honored.

The Synod Assembly will be held today and Saturday.

Activities for next week will include: Monday, Music and Worship Committee meeting at 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday, garden maintenance will be performed from 6-8 p.m.; Wednesday, Bible study at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, Constitution Committee meeting from 1-3 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, Luther's Angels participate in the annual Relay for Life at the Hometown Farmer's Market.
