Receives his D.O.

Published June 23. 2010 05:00PM

Jason Matyascik, the son of Bernard and Nancy Matyascik of Summit Hill, received a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine on Sunday, May 30, at the Louis J. Tullio Arena in Erie.

LECOM graduates go on to osteopathic internships through the American Osteopathic Association intern match program, or choose a medical specialty internship and residency program.

For the next year, Matyascik will be working at the Meadville Medical Center in Meadville.

Osteopathic medicine emphasizes a whole-person approach to health care.

D.O.s help each individual achieve wellness by focusing on health education, injury prevention, and disease prevention. They provide all of the benefits of modern medicine, including prescription drugs, surgery, and the use of technology to diagnose and evaluate injury; but offer the added benefit of hands-on diagnosis and treatment through a system of therapy known as osteopathic manipulative medicine.

Matyascik is a graduate of Panther Valley High School and Penn State University.
