Lehighton-Lower Mac

Lehighton and Lower Macungie both staged seventh inning comebacks in a Lehigh Valley Legion League game that was eventually suspended by darkness.

The game was suspended after eight innings with the score tied at 6-6. It will be completed tonight before the regularly scheduled game between the two teams in Lehighton at 6 p.m.

Lehighton took advantage of three Lower Mac errors to score four times in the top of the seventh and grab a 6-4 lead. But the host tallied twice in the bottom of the frame to force extra innings.

Kyle McAvoy had two hits and scored two runs for Lehighton while Kyle Hunter and Casey Lawrence added two hits each.

The game was marred by an incident prior to the game when Lehighton team statistican and bench coach Kevin Hoben was throwing batting practice and a groundball richoted off the ground hit him in the eye. He was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital and transferred to Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia.

"Everyone seemed a little sluggish and a little distracted and I think a lot had to do with that," said Lehighton assistant coach Mike Thomas. "A lot of the players here played with Kevin and myself and consider him a friend and seeing him go down like that was tough."
