Honored grads

Effort UMC recently recognized its graduates from various schools and endeavors. They include: Chris D'Arcy, graduated from Pleasant Valley High School, who has already left for the Army; Samantha Barth, graduated from Columbia International University with a bachelor of science; Chad Edwards, graduated from Archbishop Ryan, who will be attending Temple University in the fall; Josh Ernst, graduated from law school; Katie Griffith, graduated from 12th Century Cyber School; and Lisa (Zipp) Hoffman, from Luzerne Community College with a dental assistant diploma.

Also Jessica Kondratick, graduated from Notre Dame High, who will be attending ESU in the fall; Nate Loch, who graduated from Pleasant Valley High School and will attend Penn State for criminal justice (state trooper); Andre Soares, graduated from Pleasant Valley High School; Melanie Zipp, graduated from University of Scranton, masters in chemistry; and Donald Zipp III, graduated from Keiser University, with distinction in fire science.

New program

Effort UMC has begun collecting unused manufacturers coupons. The coupons will be sent to various locations to be used by service men and women.

Touch of Home meets

The regular monthly meeting for July for Operation: Touch of Home will take place at 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 6, at the American Legion Post home in Gilbert.

Soup kitchen open

If anyone is in need of food or fellowship on Monday, July 5, which marks Independence Day, the church soup kitchen of the East Stroudsburg United Methodist Church will open its doors at 10:30 a.m. The meal is served at noon.

New pastor

Effort UMC will hold only one worship service on the Fourth of July weekend. It will be the first welcome service with the new pastor, the Rev. Robin Fisher. The service will be at 10 a.m., Sunday, July 4.

There will be no Saturday service on July 3.

Installation dinner

West End Rotary will hold its installation dinner on July 1 at The Hamilton in Sciota.

Spanish Mass

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, will offer a Spanish Mass at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 1.

Free supper

Our Lady Queen of Peace is offering a free community Sunday supper from 3-4 p.m., Sunday, July 25, at the church in Gilbert.
