Newspaper drive
The men and boys of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, March 6. Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors by 8 a.m. They also need brown grocery-size paper bags. The shiny inserts are acceptable.
Persons missed or those wishing to dispose of papers throughout the month may take them to the church garage on Fireline Road, which is always open. In case of bad weather, the drive will be held the following Saturday.
Heritage Center
The Heritage Center, 410 Delaware Ave., is continuing its exhibit of items relating to the 20th anniversary of the founding of the historical society. The center is open various hours, Wednesday through Saturday, each week. For specific times, please phone (610) 824-6956 for a recording. Admission is free.
Lenten Service
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., will hold a soup and sandwich evening Lenten service on Wednesday, March 10. The supper will be from 6-7 p.m., followed by a worship service from 7-7:30 p.m. All are invited.
Lenten Luncheon
Community Lenten Lunches continue at First United Church of Christ, 457 Delaware Ave., Palmerton. The next noontime lunch will be held Wednesday, March 10. The public is invited to attend each week for a light lunch and worship. A guest pastor is featured each week. All faiths are welcome.
Community meal
A free community dinner will be held from 5-6:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 9, at St. John's United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton. Come and enjoy a free meal and fellowship.
Historical society
The Monday, March 8 meeting of the Palmerton Area Historical Society will feature a discussion by architect Ben Walbert on the restoration and renovation of historic buildings. This is a timely subject because the society has received an official "Determination of Eligibility" from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission for the establishment of a historic district. Walbert's talk will follow a short business meeting beginning at 7 p.m. in the gallery of the Palmerton Area Library. The public is invited to attend without cost or obligation.
