Coaldale has given up a son to the cause of America's defense. He is Wash C. Shaffron, 21-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Shaffron, 159 E. Water St., Coaldale. The tersely worded telegram received by his mother from the War Department today expressed regrets over the death, which occurred in the Philippines Dec. 8. The young man was Coaldale High School's representative boy orator in his senior year. Besides his brother, he is survived by four brothers, one of whom, John, is also affiliated in the service of Uncle Sam.
