Football scholar athlete banquet Sunday

The 50th annual National Football Foundation Lehigh Valley Chapter Awards Dinner will take place on Sunday, March 7, at 4:30 p.m. at the Northampton Community Center.

Former Philadelphia Eagles and St. Louis Rams head coach Dick Vermeil will be the guest speaker. Vermeil, who also coached at the college level at UCLA, won a Super Bowl with the Rams.

Below are capsules on the six area nominees and a list of the remaining student-athletes.

Corey Raymond Cinicola

Jim Thorpe

A 6-4, 225-pound quarterback, he ranks 8th out of 162 students. He is a member of the National Honor Society, a principal's list high honor roll student all four years, participates in basketball and baseball and is involved in other organizations. He is active in his church and volunteers for several community activities.

Timothy Alan Sulzer

Lehighton

A 6-2, 200-pound fullback and linebacker, he ranks 1st out of 225 students. He is Treasurer of the National Honor Society, editor of the yearbook, participates in Scholastic Scrimmage and numerous other student organizations. He volunteers at the Miracle League, Head Start, Operation Christmas Child and Red Cross blood drives.

Christian Freudenberger

Northern Lehigh

A 6-0, 215-pound offensive guard and defensive tackle, he ranks 6th out of 188 students. He earned second team all-state as well as all-conference honors, is a member of the National Honor Society, class president, yearbook staff member, participates in class musicals and track as well as numerous other student organizations. He volunteers for both Special Olympics and Lehigh Valley Hospital and is active in his church youth group.

Michael Oswald

Northwestern

A 6-1, 180-pound fullback and linebacker, he ranks 57th out of 208 students. He earned all-conference honors and is an honor roll student. He is a Lehigh Valley and state trapshoot champion. He is active in his community.

Joshua C. Grohotolski

Palmerton

A 5-10, 175-pound wide receiver and defensive back, he ranks in the top-half of this class of 133 students. He is a member of student government and participates in both wrestling and baseball. He is a member of both the Environmental and Future Business Leaders clubs.

Cale Craig

Pleasant Valley

A 6-0, 215-pound defensive end and tight end, he ranks 73rd out of 472 students. He earned all-conference honors and is an honor roll student. He is active in his school and community.
