Sen. Argall to host economic roundtable
State Senator David G. Argall (R-29) will host a roundtable discussion on improving our local job climate on Friday, March 12 at 9 a.m.. The roundtable will be held at Penn State University - Schuylkill Campus - Health and Wellness Center, 200 University Drive, Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972.
Representatives from local labor unions and the Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce, Schuylkill Chamber, Pennsylvania General Assembly, Schuylkill Economic Development Corporation, Schuylkill/Luzerne Workforce Investment Board, and local business leaders have been invited to discuss job growth, business recruiting efforts, employment and underemployment statistics, as well as forecasted economic projections.
"This economy is the worst that many of us have seen in our lifetimes," according to Argall. "Many are referring to it as the 'Great Recession,' the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression of the 1930's. Pennsylvania's efforts, as well as the $787 billion federal "stimulus bill" passed by Congress in February have not had the desired impact," Argall added.
"It's my goal to find out what state and local governments can do to better improve our recovery efforts. Whether it's better workforce development and job training, or work on our business recruiting efforts, we need to improve our strategies," Argall noted.
The roundtable is a follow-up to Argall's Community Revitalization Summits held last summer aimed at providing information for local communities to fight blight and create local jobs.
The roundtable is open to the public. Because seating is limited, those attending are asked to contact Senator Argall's office at (570) 773-0891 or 1-877-DARGALL.
