Burglary, theft incidents probed

State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating a burglary and two theft incidents that occurred at Schuylkill County locations.

The break-in occurred at the Super Gas store located at 1467 Centre Turnpike (SR61), in West Brunswick Township. Unknown criminals cut wires and disarmed the alarm system about 3:45 a.m. on Sunday, March 7, and entered the building by forcing open the front door. While inside the criminals gathered together numerous cartons of assorted cigarettes as well as money from inside the store. They also attempted to break open a ATM machine.

While inside the building a newspaper delivery driver arrived to drop off papers and apparently startled the intruders. They fled the the building through the front doors and ran toward a field behind the business leaving the cigarettes behind as well as some of the money. Troopers said an undetermined amount of cash was taken in the entry.

Carol A. Lempfert, 48, of Minersville, reported the 2001 Dodge Stratus she rented from EZ Rent-A-Car, of Pottsville, was stolen while parked in a lot at the Fairlane Village Mall in Norwegian Township. The incident occurred between 2:30 and 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 6. The car had the keys in the ignition. The vehicle is black in color.

An incident at a barn in West Brunswick Township is also being probed. Troopers said unknown criminals arrived at a barn owned by Samuel J. Boyer, and located at 103 Whitetail Lane, Orwigsburg, and stole a wheel barrow, shovels, lumber and brass/galvanized fittings from inside the barn. The incident occurred sometime between 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Friday, March 5.
