Cell phone use blamed for crash

The use of a cellular phone was blamed for a one vehicle crash that occurred about 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, along SR61 in New Castle Township, Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said Tracy Weidenheimer, 41, of Orwigsburg, was driving a 1998 Ford Contour southbound when she lost control while trying to answer her cell phone. The car went onto the east berm and struck the guide rail, then came to rest lodged under the railing and facing east blocking the left lane of travel.

Weidenheimer was not injured. Damages were disabling to the vehicle which had to be towed.

Troopers cited Weidenheimer for driving on roadways laned for traffic.
