Lansford hires secretary
Lansford Borough Council on Wednesday hired a borough businesswoman known for her community improvement activities as the town's new secretary-treasurer.
Renee Slakoper started her new job this morning. She'll be earning $13.50 an hour plus benefits for the first 90 days; $14 an hour for the next 90 days, after which her pay goes to $15 an hour.
Slakoper replaces Nicole Tessitore, who resigned Feb. 17 to take a similar position with Lehighton Borough.
Slakoper is known for her leadership in Lansford Alive! The group organizes parades, children's parties and other events for the borough.
In 2008, Slakoper was instrumental in having a heavy antique coal cart in Kennedy Park in the borough moved so it was no longer obscured by trees. She helped bring back the Panther Valley Pumpkin Parade. In 2008, the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce's Panther Valley Area presented Slakoper with the Businessperson of the Year award.
At the time, she was the administrative assistant of ASI Employer Solutions in Lansford, where she supervised the department of all marketing materials for the company. Slakoper's attention to customer service helped earn her the award. She is also active in organizing veterans' events in the community.
