Business women
The Tamaqua Business and Professional Women's Club held its March meeting at La Dolce Casa in Tamaqua. President Mary Bridygham conducted the business session. An election of officers for 2010-2011 was held with the following results: Mary Bridygham, president; Phyllis Paisley, vice president; Lucinda Sabol, recording secretary; Jean A. Towle, treasurer; and Nancy Stevens, corresponding secretary.
The local club will serve as hostess for the District Nine Spring Conference, which will be held at Zion's Church in the Lewistown Valley. Marion Waelchli, BPW/PA president-elect, will be the state representative and will install the new District Nine officers. Jean A. Towle currently serves as district director. Lucinda Sabol, who serves as the current district corresponding secretary, will be installed as the new assistant district director. All members are welcome to attend the conference.
Jean Towle presented a program concerning facts about America's First Ladies.

WP softball
The West Penn Girls Softball Association will meet this Sunday, at 7 p.m., in the West Penn Township Municipal Building. The meeting is open to parents of all the players as well as the coaching staff.
Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care is available. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:30 a.m.
Also on Sunday, a service will be held at the Tamaqua ABC High Rise, beginning at 6 p.m.
Activities for next week include: Tuesday, Prayer Time at 8:30 a.m. and GriefShare at 1:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Freed Up Financial Living Class at 6:30 p.m., Tamaqua Youth Ministry at 6:30 p.m., adult Bible study at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, praise practice at 9 a.m.
Jack and Jill
The Tamaqua YMCA's Jack and Jill Pre-School is now accepting applications for the 2010-2011 school year. Preschool programs are open to children between the ages of 3-5. Four or five hour programs are available.
An open house will be held March 19, from 9-11 a.m., at the Tamaqua YMCA, located in the former Jamesway store.

St. John UCC
The Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ. Nursery service will be provided. The service will be followed by a time of fellowship. Sunday school for all ages will begin at 11 a.m. The weekly radio broadcast will air on WLSH - AM radio 1410. at 11:30 a.m.
Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, Bell Choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.; Wednesday, joint Lenten service, at 7:30 p.m., at St. John UCC.
