Adult Day Care Center gives presentation to Rotary Club
Management from the non-profit Tamaqua Area Adult Day Care Center, TAADCC, in Tamaqua gave a presentation to the Tamaqua Rotary Club during their meeting Wednesday morning at the Tamaqua Salvation Army.
The presentation revolved around the benefits the non-profit center provides to seniors and the community. TAADCC Facilities Director Philip Koles pointed out that funding is provided by state and county sources. The TAADCC benefits seniors from Schuylkill and Carbon county.
Gary Price, TAADCC board member and Rotary Club member pointed out the center was started 18 years ago by the Tamaqua Ministerium. Price added, "Because we have older long-serving board members, we are losing a lot board members due to health. We really need new board members to help keep this center running. Without board members, we really can't exist. He added, "New board members are needed and would be an asset to the progress and future of our center."
The center offers many activities for the participants. Currently the center serves 26 participants. There are openings available for new participants. Seniors are kept very active with fun tasks, such as games, trips, singing, holiday activities, exercises, outdoor activities, and much more. Outdoor picnics are also another activity provided to the participants in the summer.
Participants are provided with meals, as well as transportation to and from their home. Darlene Smith, TAADCC Activities Coordinator, stated that their center is a comfortable place to keep seniors healthy by bringing them out of the house instead of being stuck in front of the TV all the time. Koles said, "free days are offered to participants so families can bring in their loved ones to see what we do here and to make a decision if this is what they want."
Hair dressers, beauticians, medical professionals, pastors, and other guests routinely visit the non-profit center. Once a month, children from local schools, such as St Jerome Elementary, also volunteer their time with the participants at the center.
A 5K run/walk is the center's only major fundraiser throughout the year. Their TAADCC 6th annual 5K walk/run will be held Saturday May 8th at 8 AM. Sponsors are needed for the event. Names of the sponsors will appear on the back of the walk/run shirts. People wanting to donate, help, or inquire about registering a family member or participant with the center are asked to call the center at 570-668-6554. At the end of the presentation, a generous donation was given to the TAADCC from the Tamaqua Rotary Club. Tamaqua Rotary Club vice president Lynn Zimmerman stated, "Your non-profit organization provides a great benefit to our community and we thank you."
