House Speaker McCall to welcome undergraduate research students

Speaker of the House Keith R. McCall, D-Carbon, will welcome students and faculty from 25 Pennsylvania institutions of higher education to Harrisburg for the Undergraduate Research at the Capitol event on Tuesday, March 23.

The sixth semiannual event, also held in 19 other states throughout the nation, offers students the opportunity to demonstrate their intellectual ability to the members and staff of the General Assembly.

The goals of the event are to demonstrate that participating in research as an undergraduate is important to the educational development of college students; and to show that undergraduate students can produce important knowledge, cultural heritage and economic well-being of our communities, state and nation.

Students and faculty advisers and administrators from 25 Pennsylvania colleges and universities will present their research throughout the day in the Capitol's East Wing.

Their projects address research questions in the physical, life and social sciences; engineering; information technology; and humanities.

The event is sponsored by McCall, the Legislative Office for Research Liaison, the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, and the Pennsylvania Association of Colleges and Universities.
