Signs for St. Paul's Church arrive in Weissport

Weissport Council member Arland Moyer reported that the signs for St. Paul's Church have arrived and the church has paid for them.

A few months ago, church members heard that council was taking back signs that said "no parking" because the signs were invalid. That brought out several members of the church to ask for signs because the church has many elderly members who cannot walk a distance. The signs will allow for temporary church parking on Sundays from 9 a.m. to noon.

Mayor Jonathan Troutman approved a request from the Weissport Redneck Committee to close several streets for the festival which will be held over the Labor Day Weekend. The event is sponsored by the Weissport Recreation Association (formerly Concerned Citizens of Weissport).

The borough approved having students from the Carbon-Lehigh Intermediate Unit assist the borough worker Dennis Moser for the next several weeks. Moser will oversee the projects. Students can perform such tasks as painting and raking and will be available until the end of May.

Council members also discussed a timeline to complete the borough playground.

Sue Pywar, council member, said that volunteers will complete the playground. She said there appears to be a drainage problem, which must be corrected.

Council noted that the playground grant funds will be depleted to complete the project.

Steve Mansueto, police chief of Weissport, asked council's approval to purchase a Taser at the cost of $999 using remaining police department grant funds. Mansueto said the Taser is top of the line and includes the holster and batteries, which is the best price available.
