Grammy winner Norah Jones performs at Musikfest
One of music's most beautiful voices will fill the Sands RiverPlace main stage at Musikfest 2010 when nine-time Grammy Award winner Norah Jones visits the music festival for a Saturday, Aug. 7 concert.
The show will also include an opening act to be announced at a later date.
Thanks to her unique blend of jazz and pop, Jones took the music world by storm with her 2002 debut, "Come Away With Me." The multiplatinum selling recording, which included the hits "Come Away With Me" and "Don't Know Why," reached No. 1 on Billboard's Contemporary Jazz and Billboard 200 charts.
The album earned Jones five Grammy Awards, including "Album of the Year" and "Best New Artist." In 2004, Jones followed up her debut success with "Feels Like Home," which also topped The Billboard 200 and featured the single "Sunrise," which captured the "Best Female Pop Vocal Performance" Grammy.
The daughter of Ravi Shankar, Jones was born in New York City in 1979 and grew up in Texas with her mother. While attending Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, Jones captured the Best Jazz Vocalist and Best Original Composition honors in DownBeat magazine's annual Student Music Awards.
Although she attended the University of North Texas to earn a degree in jazz piano, the pianist/vocalist eventually made her way to New York City, where she was discovered by a Blue Note Records employee and signed to the label in 2001.
Jones' most recent release is "The Fall," which was released in November 2009. The recording reached No. 1 on Billboard's Top Rock Albums charts and No. 3 on the Top Digital Albums and Top Canadian Albums charts.
Musikfest 2010, which is presented by ArtsQuest, will take place 5-11 p.m. Aug. 6 and noon-11 p.m. Aug. 7-15. The festival will include some 500 musical performances on 14 indoor and outdoor stages throughout Bethlehem's historic, 18th-century downtown.
