Schuylkill woman sentenced to jail for retail theft
Dina Elizabeth Quinn, 50, of 21 Tunnel Road, Brandonville, had problems coming to the courthouse in Pottsville Tuesday. She had a court appearance at 9 a..m. but called in she was traveling by bus and couldn't get a bus before 9:15 a.m.
Judge D. Michael Stine graciously delayed the hearing. She appeared for sentencing after entering a general guilty plea last February 22 to a charge of retail theft. Judge Stine at that time deferred sentencing and ordered a pre-sentence investigative report prepared by the adult probation department and fixed the date of sentencing for last Tuesday.
Because of a past record of convictions for retail theft, Quinn was sentenced to serve six months to 18 months in the Schuylkill County Prison. The sentence to begin on Monday, April 5 at 10 a.m. when she has to report to the warden at the county prison.
The charge she was sentenced on occurred on April 18,2009. According to the prosecuting officer, Lieutenant John Kaczmarczk, Mahanoy City Police, she took five bottles of deodorants from The Dollar Store in Mahanoy City. Quinn also was ordered to pay the costs of prosecution, make restitution of $23.50, pay $50 to the Criminal Justice Enhancement Account and when released on probation to pay a monthly fee of $50 for each month on probation.
