Woman airlifted following Friday crash in Nesquehoning
Preliminary details have been released on a two-car crash on Route 54 in Nesquehoning Friday night.
The crash happened at about 9 p.m. when a westbound driver was traveling at a high rate of speed lost control of his car and struck an oncoming vehicle.
The driver of the eastbound vehicle, a Beth Miller of Lehighton, had to be extricated from her car by firefighters. She was flown to Lehigh Valley hospital, Salisbury Township. A three-year-old child and another passenger in the car escaped injury.
The driver of the westbound vehicle was taken to a hospital, treated and released, said Nesquehoning police officer Timothy Wuttke. "Speed was a factor," he said.
Police have yet to release further details.
The crash, near the Ametek plant, closed down the highway for hours.
