March 23, 1954 Joe Duffy explodes for 50 points to lead St. Joseph's of East Mauch Chunk to the Up-State CYO championship with a 77-50 victory over Our Lady Help of Christians of Allentown. The six-foot Duffy drops in 24 field goals and two free throws to account for his huge point total. Bill Gmitter also tosses in eight points for the winners, who race to a 39-21 halftime advantage.
