Despite changes, board assured engineering services to remain

Less than three months since Mahoning Township supervisors decided to appoint CMX Engineering as the new township engineer, they learned through correspondence the Allentown office was ceasing operations.

They were informed by their engineering professional Tim Eddinger that while the office was being merged into another one, he would still remain their engineer and services to the township would be uninterrupted.

Chairman John Wieczorek said during last night's meeting that his conversation with Eddinger after the board received the letter assured him that he would still be providing the full range of services to the township and once they decide on a new name for the firm the township will be notified. Eddinger did request in the interim to be personally appointed as the township engineer.

"I'm concerned about whether we will continue to receive the wide range of services we were originally promised such as traffic, sewage and grant writing," said Supervisor Frank Ruch.

Wieczorek said, "Tim's team is remaining intact during this transition and he will continue to provide services to the township as he did before."

Solicitor Tom Nanovic reminded Ruch the engineer like the solicitor serves at the will of the board and can be changed at any time.

"If you don't like what happens later, you can simply vote to hire a new firm."

Wieczorek agreed, telling Ruch that he was more than willing to revisit it if things change.

The board formally changed the appointment from CMX Engineering to Eddinger unanimously with no further discussion.
