Gardening helpline
The Penn State Master gardener program has established a horticulture helpline to answer gardening-related questions from Schuylkill County residents.
Beginning April 5, and continuing through Sept. 29, master gardener volunteers will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., every Monday and Wednesday.
Information concerning lawns, landscaping and gardening will be available. Anyone with a question related to trees, flowers, shrubs, grass, garden soil, vegetables, pH, insects and/or diseases will now have their answers just a phone call away.
The helpline number will be (570) 622-4225. Help is also available by e-mail at schuylkillmg@psu.edu.
Calvary UM
The Rev. Brian reading will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Palm Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. Nursery care is available. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.
Also this Sunday, the Children's Easter program will be presented at 6:30 p.m.
Holy Week services will include: Maundy Thursday, hymn sing and service at 7 p.m., at St. John's Conservative Christian Congregational Church, Port Clinton; Good Friday, hymn sing and service at 7:30 p.m., Zion United Methodist Church, New Ringgold.
An Easter Sunday sunrise service will be held at the Harry Strack Farm.
Democrats to meet
The Eastern Schuylkill Democrats will meet Monday, at 7:30 p.m., at the East End Fire Company. The public is welcome to attend.
Primitive Methodist
The Rev. Rodney Hall will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Palm Sunday in Primitive Methodist Church. A children's sermon will be included.
Sunday school for all ages begins at 9:30 a.m.
Trinity UCC
The Rev. Dr. David Grant will officiate at the 10 a.m. service this Sunday in Trinity United Church of Christ. The service will include the traditional blessing of palms and words for young Christians. Nursery care will be provided. Sunday school classes will meet at 8:45 a.m.
Holy Week services will include: Maundy Thursday, Holy Communion service at noon; Saturday, Easter egg hunt at 10 a.m.
Zion Lutheran
Palm Sunday services will be celebrated at 8:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.
The Rev. Debra Ernst will officiate and the early service will include the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:30 a.m.
Activities for next week will include: Wednesday, midweek lenten service at 7:30 p.m.; Maundy Thursday, Holy Communion service at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, easter Vigil at 7:30 p.m.
Class of 2010
Parents of the Tamaqua Class of 2010 meet every Monday, at 7 p.m., on the third floor of the Tamaqua Elks, 201 W. Broad St.
The group is constructing decorations for the annual all night party and could always use extra hands.
