Class of 1969

The Tamaqua Class of 1969 will hold an initial planning session for its next reunion on April 29, at 7 p.m., at the Restaurant at the Station. All class members are welcome to attend.

Senior news

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met last week with 75 members in attendance. The business session was conducted by President Jean Machamer, who also offered several readings later in the meeting. Eleanor Roberts offered the invocation, entitled "Always Near You."

A moment of silence was held in memory of Rich Valentini.

Reports were provided by secretary Eleanor Schmerfeld and treasurer Dolores Walck.

Roger Walck was thanked for constructing a stand for the bingo machine and Kane Lumber was thanked for donating the supplies to construct the stand.

February and March birthdays were noted. Celebrants included: Eleanor Schmerfeld, Shirley Shellhammer, Phyl Sfarra, Susan Laubach, Gloria Carpency, Lorraine Benedict, Edith Verano, Isabelle Brode and Joseph Bednarik. Each was provided with a birthday cake, compliments of E. Franklin Griffiths.

The group will not meet this week. The next meeting will be held April 8, at 1 p.m., at the Tamaqua Community Center, located to the rear of Boyer's Food Mart. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.

First Methodist

Two new members were welcomed to First United Church on Palm Sunday. A reception was held following the worship service.

The quilters will not be meeting on April 6 and 13, but will resume weekly meetings at 9:30 a.m. on April 20.

Activities for this week will include: senior choir rehearsal today at 7:30 p.m.; Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m.; Easter Vigil, Saturday at 11 a.m.; Easter Sunday service with Holy Communion at 10:45 a.m.

Pastor James Cavallero will also officiate at the 9:30 a.m. Easter Sunday service in Salem United Methodist Church.

St. Jerome's

Holy Week services in St. Jerome's Catholic Church will include: Holy Thursday, Mass at 7 p.m., church will remain open until 10 p.m.; Good Friday, Stations of the Cross at 3 p.m., service at 6 p.m.; Holy Saturday, blessing of baskets at noon, Vigil Mass at 8 p.m.; Easter Sunday, Masses at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Confessions will be heard on Thursday, from 3:30-5 p.m. and following the 7 p.m. Mass; Friday, following Stations of the Cross and after the 6 p.m. service; Saturday, 2-4 p.m.
