The Greatest Lesson...

Published May 01. 2010 09:00AM

Dear Editor:

I was sad to learn of the death of a beloved teacher. His name is Robert Kovac Sr. and he taught English at the Jim Thorpe Senior High for many years. He wasn't just a teacher to a lot of us, he excited us to read, urged us to tell him about the books that we read. He introduced me to Beowulf, which is still one of my favorite books. He talked to me when my father passed and showed he was a friend as well as a teacher, he will be missed greatly by many more than myself. Thank you Mr. Kovac....for teaching me to read and write from the heart ...

The Greatest Lesson ….

When left to our devices

We live to forgive the days

We tend to regret in life

Days we left too soon

For things that just were

A blink of a tear filled eye

Words spoken from the heart

As one friend to another

Listening to what one feels

Tragedy leads to thoughts

Of regrets, moments, & words

He led me to find my voice

Further along the trail I went

Than I might have gone before

He gave no promise for tomorrow

Just wished me to live the day out

With the conviction I never knew

I had to use within myself, somehow

He knew it was there in the embers

The words I have now are simple ones

Thank you for the lessons you taught

And the friendship you offered many

With you deeds, we found our words

And that in itself is the greatestlesson ….
