Schuylkill crashes

State police at Schuylkill Haven reported on three crashes investigated by troopers over the past weekend on Schuylkill County roadways.

A crash occurred about 1:31 p.m. on Friday, April 30, along SR209 at the intersection with SR412, in Tremont Township. Troopers said Justin M. Riegel, 18, of Tremont, was driving a 1991 Hyundai Excel and Alice P. Jou, 36, of Clinton, N.Y., was operating a 2003 Toyota Camry both southbound on 209. Troopers said Jou stopped for a red traffic light and her vehicle was struck in the rear by Riegel's.

Jou sustained a minor injury in the crash. No one else was injured. Troopers cited Riegel for careless driving.

Troopers probed a crash about 12:55 a.m. on Saturday, May 1, along the Gordon Nagle Trail (SR901), in North Manheim Township. Troopers said Anthony C. Stratton, 20, of Schuylkill Haven, was driving a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria eastbound. After passing Red Horse Road a deer entered the road in front of him. The car struck the deer with the left front. After impact the deer landed along the north berm. A passenger with Stratton, Dushawn Roberts, 19, also of Schuylkill Haven, sustained a minor injuried in the crash but did not require medical attention. Stratton and two other passengers were not injured.

A three vehicle crash was reported on Sunday, May 2, about 1:14 p.m. at Mill Creek Avenue and the Port Carbon/St. Clair Highway in East Norwegian Township.

Troopers said Gina R. Costy, 22, of Port Carbon, was driving a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee northbound on the Port Carbon highway and attempting to make a left turn onto Mill Ave. in front of a 1999 Ford Contour Sport driven by John R. Strokelitus, 28, of Port Carbon, who was southbound headed towards Port Carbon. The Ford struck the passenger side of the Jeep with the front end. After impact the Jeep spun clockwise and struck a 2006 Pontiac Torrent driven by Robert J. Leddy, 38, of Pottsville, who was stopped at the intersection waiting to make a left turn.

After impact the Ford traveled an additional 38 feet before coming to rest.

No one was injured. Damages were disabling to the Ford and Jeep and minor to the Pontiac. Troopers said Costy was cited for a vehicle code violation.
