Rush-Ryan seniors
The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met April 27 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 42 members in attendance.
President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business meeting. Chaplain Kathleen Valentine offered an invocation. Reports were presented by secretary Florina Martin and treasurer Shirley Becker, who sent get well cards to Leona Machay, Jane Tartar and Helene Clouser. Birthday greetings were offered to Madeline Heffelfinger. Two members, Jim Valentine and Dorothy Schmerfeld, were welcomed back to the club. A thank you card was received from Leona Machay.
The annual banquet has been scheduled for May 11, at noon, at the Ryan Township Fire Company. A and C Catering will provide the refreshments.
Florina Martin, Jean Machamer and Shirley Becker provided inspirational readings.
The group meets the first and third Monday of every month. Anyone 50 or older is welcome to join.
Recycling
Wednesday is the day for curbside recycling pickup for all residents of Tamaqua.
All recyclable items must be placed in the containers issued to each borough household. Any other containers, such as plastic bags and cardboard boxes, will be emptied and left behind.
Anyone who needs a recycling container may contact borough hall at (570) 668-3444.
Collection bins for cardboard have been moved to the Tamaqua Transfer Station on Sewage Treatment Plant Road.
Collection bins for newspaper can be found at the Tamaqua Borough Garage on East Broad Street.
TOPS news
The Tamaqua Chapter of Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) meets every Wednesday, from 6-8 p.m., in the Tamaqua Salvation Army Community Center, 105 W. Broad St. The meeting includes a short business session and a program.

Class of 1943
The Tamaqua High School Class of 1943 is planning a reunion picnic for its 67th anniversary. The event will be held June 19 at the Owl Creek Reservoir Pavilion, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The menu will include traditional picnic items such as hamburgers, hot dogs and assorted soft drinks. No alcoholic beverages will be allowed.
Reservations are now being accepted, with a deadline of May 19.

SS. Peter and Paul
The Holy Name Society of SS. Peter and Paul Lithuanian Catholic Church will meet this Thursday at 8 p.m. The meeting will be preceded by a Mass, scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
First Friday will be observed this week. Confessions will be heard beginning at 7:30 a.m., with Mass and devotions at 8 a.m. Communion calls, with the exception of Coaldale and Hometown parishioners, will begin Friday at 9 a.m. Communion calls to Hometown and Coaldale will be made Thursday.
First Steps
First Steps, a support group for mothers, will have its monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 4, at the Primitive Methodist Church, 55 Hunter St., Tamaqua. The meeting will be held in the church social room from 6-8 p.m.
Participants will share a hot meal and learn ways to use leftover bread. Ten recipes will be provided, including croutons, stuffing and Bruschetta.
The sessions are free and open to the public. Child care for all ages will be provided free of charge.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Tamaqua American Legion, C.H. Berry Unit 173, will meet May 6, at 7:30 p.m., in the post home.
