Saturday, May 15, is Armed Forces Day. Please remember those who are serving.
Rotary speaker
The West End Rotary will welcome Donald Gower of The Gower Funeral Home as speaker at its May 13 breakfast meeting. He will speak about "Current Trends in the Funeral Industry."
Field Day
Weather cooperating, the students at Chestnuthill School will be having their annual Field Day on Thursday, May 13. Should it rain, the event is slated for Friday, May 14.
School board
The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m., Thursday, May 13, in the district office in Brodheadsville.
Church conference
The Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church will be holding its annual conference at the Lancaster Convention Center from May 20 through May 22. Bishop Peggy Johnson will preside.
All Monroe County Methodist Churches are a part of the Eastern PA Conference and so will be sending representatives to that meeting.
GASP meeting

The Pleasant Valley Chemical Free Graduation Party Committee will meet at 6 p.m., Tuesday, May 18.

Zion Seniors
The Senior Citizen's Group from Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville will meet at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 20. Participants are reminded to bring a sandwich. Beverages are provided.
Clothing Drive
Family Promise of Monroe County is holding a clothing drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, June 11, at Faith United Methodist Church, 1169 Hill St., Stroudsburg.
Being accepted will be wearable and usable clothing, shoes, belts, handbags, backpacks, briefcases, hats, gloves, ties, linens, blankets, fabric curtains, sheets, tablecloths, towels, and stuffed animals.

Family Promise has just celebrated its second anniversary, during which time 72 families and their children have been helped.
Low Vision Demo
The Monroe County Council of the Blind will give a low vision demonstration from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and again from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, June 12, in the Brodhead Room of Pocono Medical Center.
The demonstration will feature such devices as computers with speech or magnification, closed circuit televisions, and portable magnifiers that would help persons with any degree of vision loss perform a task.
