Attempted break-in

Published May 14. 2010 05:00PM

State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating an attempted break-in and a criminal mischief incident, both at Schuylkill County locations.

The attempted burglary occurred at the Schuylkill County Intermediate Unit Center in Norwegian Township. Troopers said unknown persons attempted to pry open a door to a shed and two doors to a garage at the center's property sometime between May 5 and 7. It does not appear that the criminals gained entry but damage was reported to be significant to the doors.

The mischief incident occurred in a wooded area along a pole line, three-quarter of a mile south of SR25, in Frailey Township. Troopers said a 45-foot pine pole owned by PPL were chain-sawed. Once the pole was sawed the criminals pulled the pole down with chains and destroyed two 75KVA transformers and about 800-feet of wire. The criminals then fled the scene. Damages were estimated at $2,800, troopers said.

Anyone with information concerning either incident is asked to call troopers at (570) 593-2000.
