Prothonotary's report
A total of 403 cases were started in April in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the cases is as follows:
Civil actions, 58; custody complaints, 21; district justice appeals, 3; divorce complaints, 16; ejectment, 1; license appeal, 2; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 43; protection from abuse, 45; quiet title action, 1; replevin complaint, 1; tax sale, 4; zoning appeals, 2; court appointments, 2; judgments,195; miscellaneous, 2; stipulations/waivers of liens, 6; and writ of execution, 1. The office staff also received and processed 121 applications for U.S. Passports.
Behrens' financial report shows $37,519.38 was generated last month as follows: prothonotary's fees, $31,524.25; interest income, $3.51; custody fees, $500; and data processing charges, $5,491.62.
The prothonotary also remitted $4,289.55 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $72.80 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $1,721.43 deposited in the Prothonotary's Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
