Two injured in Monroe accident

Two persons were injured, and one driver cited, following a two-vehicle crash that occurred about 11:37 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, at the intersection of Weir Lake Road and Altemose Drive, in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County.

State police at Fern Ridge said Cheryl L. Palumbo, 62, of Effort, was traveling southbound at Weir Lake when Juanita F. Luciano, 82, of Albrightsville, failed to stop for a stop sign while traveling on Altemose Drive.

Troopers said Luciano turned right onto Weir Lake with the front of her 2004 Volkswagen Passat hitting the driver side door of Palumbo's 2000 Ford Windstar. Both drivers were taken to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for treatment of injuries.

Troopers cited Luciano for the stop sign violation. Volunteers from the West End Fire Company and fire police assisted at the scene.
