Panther baseball wins regular season finale

The Panther Valley baseball team ended regular season play with a win over North Schuylkill.

Panther Valley-

North Schuylkill

A six-run second inning helped Panther Valley close regular season play with an 8-5 Schuylkill League Division I win over North Schuylkill.

Kyle McAvoy delivered a two-run single during the big frame while the Panthers (11-9; 5-9) also received a home run off the bat of Greg Pecha.

Casey Lawrence earned the pitching win.

Marian-Tri-Valley

Marian took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth, but Tri-Valley plated four runs in the inning as they rallied to a 5-3 Schuylkill League victory.

Travis Hinkle's two-run double tied the game at 3-3, and Tanner Troutman's two-run single proved to be the game-winner.

Troutman and Zack Spickler had two hits to lead the Bulldogs.

For Marian (12-6), Joe Kloap, Scott Nietz and Mark Stawick all had RBI singles.

Schuylkill Haven-Tamaqua

Schuylkill Haven broke open a 4-3 game by scoring three runs in the fifth inning to take home a 7-4 Schuylkill League victory over Tamaqua (6-13).

Phil Dohner had a two-run homer in the second inning to lead the Hurricanes, while Jordan Heisler belted a three-run shot in the fourth inning for Tamaqua.

Heisler and Mike Streisel both had two hits apiece in the season-ending loss.

SOFTBALL

Marian-Tri-Valley

A six-run sixth inning proved detrimental to Marian, as Tri-Valley handed the Fillies a 6-0 Schuylkill League setback.

The Bulldogs tallied five of their seven hits in the sixth frame.

Amber Wehry had two hits, including a two-run single to lead Tri-Valley.

With the loss, Marian falls to 11-8 on the season.

Schuylkill Haven-Tamaqua

Three Tamaqua errors in the third inning resulted in two Schuylkill Haven runs, as the Hurricanes posted a 2-1 Schuylkill League victory over the host Raiders.

Tamaqua's lone run came on an Eden Helfrich ground out in the seventh inning.

Emily Gerhard struck out nine to pick up the win.

Panther Valley-

North Schuylkill

North Schuylkill jumped on the Panthers early by scoring seven runs in the first inning en route to an 11-0 shutout over Panther Valley (1-19).

Robyn Orth had three hits to lead the Spartans. Madison Newhouser, Cassie Lapotsky and Courtney McGrath added two hits apiece. McGrath also tacked on a two-run homer in the bottom of the second to up North Schuylkill's lead to 9-0.

Lapotsky struck out nine in five innings of work to pick up the win.

For Panther Valley, Demi Ogozalek had a double in the fourth inning.
