Tamaqua driver facing DUI count

A Tamaqua driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following an incident that occurred about 6:10 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19, along Pheasant Run Road west of Pine Creek Road, in West Brunswick Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said William Joseph Johnson, 58, of Hunter St., was driving a 1995 Dodge 2500 truck westbound and exited a left curve. The truck went onto the north berm then came back onto the road and traveled into the eastbound lane. The truck then swerved back over into the westbound lane and off the road again and onto the north berm.

The truck then traveled along the berm for about 65 feet before striking several trees. Johnson was injured and taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center East, Pottsville, by Orwigsburg ambulance.

Troopers said the DUI charge is pending blood test results.
