Summit Hill

Congregation to meet

St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, will hold a special congregational meeting on Sunday, June 6, immediately following the worship service.

Items to be discussed are the expense ratio with Zion Lutheran Church, Nesquehoning, the Simply Giving Program, and consideration of selling the parsonage.

The church council encourages all members to attend this important meeting that is vital to the future of St. Paul's.

Baptized

Grady John Shellhammer, son of Jillian Shellhammer and Stephen Miller, was baptized on Sunday, May 16, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill.

Scripture sharing

The weekly scripture sharing sessions at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, will continue on Thursday, May 27. The get-together will take place at 7 p.m. in the parish rectory.

SHHS contest

The Summit Hill Historical Society is running a contest in the museum window, 12 E. Ludlow St. Residents are asked to name as many of the people pictured in the photograph currently on display there.

Entry forms are located in the mail box outside the museum. The contest will run through the Memorial Day weekend, May 31, and the winner will be announced on June 1.

Lansford

Vacation Bible School

St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, has announced the dates of its upcoming Vacation Bible School. It will take place on the mornings of July 26-28.

Registrations will be accepted on June 12-13 and 19-20 after all of the weekend Masses in the parish office.

The theme will be "Rain Forest."

The school is open to children 4-10 from any of the Catholic parishes of the area.

To visit parish

The Frances C. Jakabcin District of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association will visit St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, for its annual "out of town board meeting." The event will take place on Sunday, June 6, beginning with a Mass at 1 p.m. The Rev. Msgrs. Peter Polando and Thomas Derzack will be the celebrants.

After the Mass, members will meet at the Lantern, Nesquehoning, for the dinner-meeting.

Members of the St. Ann Society of the host church and branches in local towns are invited to attend and should call Veronica Bazik, president, (570) 645-5253, before May 22.

Nesquehoning

VFW

Joint Installation of Officers of Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 will be held on Friday, May 28, beginning at 7 p.m. All post and auxiliary officers should be present by 6:30 p.m. for pictures. A social hour will follow the ceremony.

Auxiliary members are reminded to bring a dessert.

All members are welcome and invited to attend the ceremony to meet and greet their new officers for the 2010-2011 year.
