Schuylkill crashes
State police at Schuylkill Haven reported investigating two crashes, including a three-vehicle collision, on Thursday, May 27, along Schuylkill County roadways.
The three-vehicle crash occurred about 1:38 p.m. along SR61 just south of the entrance to the Cressona Mall, in North Manheim Township. Troopers said John J. Breslin, 24, of Schuylkill Haven, driving a 2002 Chevrolet Sliverado pickup truck, Victor E. Young, 61, of Reading, driving a 1999 Mercury Villager, and Martha Nicholson Anderson, 47, of Kings Mountain, N.C., driving a 2010 Ford Edge, were all southbound.
Troopers said Breslin took his eyes off the road in order to adjust his air conditioner and when he looked back to the road Young had stopped in front of him.
Breslin attempted to stop but his vehicle hit the rear of Young's vehicle pushing it into the rear of Anderson's vehicle. None of the drivers were injured. A passenger with Young, Nilsa I. Lopez, 19, of Reading, sustained a minor injury.
Troopers said Breslin was cited for the crash.
The second accident also involved a rear-end collision and occurred about 3:22 p.m. along SR183, in Wayne Township. Troopers said Hamani Abdou, 36, of Harrisburg, was operating a 1993 Mack truck with trailer southbound and approaching a hill. Troopers said Abdou was a student driver and "missed a gear" causing him to turn on his four-way flashers and stop momentarily. The trailer portion of the rig was struck by a 2000 Subaru Impreza operated by John F. Lipinsky, 73, of Schuylkill Haven.
Lipinsky and his wife, Eileen T., 74, were injured and taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-East Norwegian St., Pottsville, for treatment. Abdou and his passenger, Ray Merkey, 64, of Mount Aetna, Berks County, were not injured.
Troopers said Lipinsky was cited for careless driving.
