Monroe man jailed on drug counts

A Monroe County man was jailed after a vehicle stop in which large amounts of illegal drugs were found. State police at Lehighton said the incident occurred about 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 28 along SR115 at Kunkletown Road, in Ross Township.

Troopers said Mohammad Tanvir Islam, 21, of Effort, was stopped for a equipment violation. A consentual search was conducted of the vehicle. Found was a large amount of cocaine, marijuana and prescription pills along with other drug paraphernalia.

Islam was taken into custody because he was on state parole. He was placed in a state correctional facility. He was charged with possession of a controlled substance-cocaine-with intent to distribute along with other drug-related charges.
