Prothonotary's report

A total of 342 cases were started in October in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of the 2010 cases is as follows:

Assessment appeals, 1; Civil actions, 86; custody complaints, 22; district justice appeals, 9; declaratory judgment, 1; divorce complaints, 21; ejectments, 2; license appeals, 2; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 34; protection from abuse petitions, 33; replevin complaint, 1; tax sale, 1; judgments, 120; paternity, 1; and stipulations/waivers of liens, 8. The office staff also received and processed 35 applications for U.S. Passports.

Behrens' financial report shows $36,285.66 was generated as follows: prothonotary's fees, $29,915.73; interest income, $6.50; PFA surcharge, courts, $150; PFA surcharge, sheriff, $150; custody fees, $900; data processing fees, $5,163.43.

The prothonotary also remitted $5,304.91 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $78.40 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996. Another $1,460.30 was deposited in the Prothonotary's Automation Fund for future use in automating the office.
