Diabetes Educator Status renewed
The National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators (NCBDE) announced that Susan M. Generose, RD, CDE, LDN, Clinical Dietitian, Blue Mountain Health System, has renewed the Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) status by successfully completing the continuing option process. Candidates must meet rigorous eligibility requirements to be eligible for certification. Achieving the CDE credential demonstrates to people with diabetes and employers that the healthcare professional possesses distinct and specialized knowledge, thereby promoting quality of care for people with diabetes. Currently there are over 16,600 diabetes educators who hold NCBDE certification. When Susan started this process in 1994, there were 6,000 educators countrywide.
Susan has been an employee of Blue Mountain Health System since May, 2010. She has been a Registered Dietitian for 20 years and a Certified Diabetes Educator for 16 years. She has been married to her husband, Robert, for 19 years and they have two children, Brianna Clair, age 15 and Robert, III, age 10.
NCDBE was established in 1986 to develop and administer a certification program for healthcare professionals who teach individuals with diabetes how to manage their disease. Through the development, maintenance and protection of the certification process and the CDE credential, NCBDE recognizes and advances the specialty practice of diabetes education. NCBDE supports the concept of voluntary, periodic certification for all diabetes educators who meet credential and experience eligibility requirements.
