Get growing to great lengths
Area women are encouraged to let their hair grow now so that they may donate it in January to Pantene's "Beautiful Lengths."
A "ponytail cutting event" will be hosted by Courtney Mease of Lehighton Area High School and Salon Salvatore Christian, 531 North St., Jim Thorpe, from noon until 4 p.m. on Jan. 8. All qualifying donated ponytails will be transformed into free high-quality wigs for women undergoing cancer treatments.
To make the most durable, beautiful wigs possible, donated hair must be a minimum of eight inches in length, and have no more than a few strands of gray. Hair may be colored with vegetable dyes, rinses or semi-permanent dyes, but cannot have been bleached, permanently colored or chemically treated. Wavy or curly texture is fine, and can be straightened to measure.
Hair should be freshly washed, completely dry and free from any styling products.
Those who can't or choose not to donate may show their support by making a donation to the Women's Cancer Research Fund.
To sign up or for more information, contact Mease at (484) 629-4508; (610) 377-3355; or by email at bleemease@yahoo.com, and entering "Beautiful lengths" in the subject line.
