Mahoning police report arrests

Mahoning Township police Chief Kenneth J. Barnes has released information concerning several arrests.

Patrick Janecki, 19, of the 1000 block of Lenape Trail, Albrightsville, charged with driving under the influence (DUI); furnishing alcohol to minors; resisting arrest; having an open container of alcohol; underage consumption of alcoholic beverages.

Alan D. Kovacs, 21, of Sachen Road, Lake Hopatcong, N.J.: furnishing alcohol to minors, persistent disorderly conduct and having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle.

Three female juveniles: possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages under the age of 21 years.

According to the report, at about 2:10 a.m. Oct. 30, an officer was monitoring traffic on Mauch Chunk Street when he saw a vehicle traveling in a careless manner, speeding traveling 55 miles-per-hour in a posted 35 zone. The officer attempted to catch up to the vehicle and initiate a traffic stop.

The vehicle accelerated to a high speed traveling carelessly through the curves on Mauch Chunk Street heading toward Jim Thorpe and for a short distance failed to yield to emergency lights and siren. Upon stopping the vehicle the officer first contacted the driver, identified as Janecki. The officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and observed his eyes were bloodshot and speech slurred. He was unable to locate his registration even though it was lying on his lap. He was asked to perform four field sobriety tests which he failed.

There were three female passengers in the vehicle under the age of 21. Two 17 year old females from Jim Thorpe and one 15 year old female from Albrightsville. There were four open containers of alcohol in the back seat of the vehicle where the three female juveniles were sitting.

The officer also observed marijuana residue inside the vehicle on the front driver, and passenger sides. All of the underage females had been consuming alcoholic beverages.

The front seat passenger was identified as Kovacs. He was also under the influence of alcohol and upon first contact immediately began to use foul language. He was uncooperative and refused to listen to officers commands. Kovacs was arrested and when placed in the rear of a police cruiser repeatedly smashed his head off the cage after being told to stop. He also slipped the handcuffs from behind his back to his front. They were put behind his back and he again slipped them to the front. Upon arrival to the police station he was handcuffed to the bar on the wall. He attempted to pull the bar from the wall by using extreme force and continued with his aggressive and hostile conduct.

Kovacs was arraigned before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek of Lansford and jailed in the Carbon County prison under $2,000 straight bail.

Tiffany L. Binder, 29, of the 600 block of East Patterson St., Lansford, was arrested as a wanted person.

At about 5:31 p.m. Oct. 29, police were notified by Walmart Super Center loss prevention that a female wanted in Schuylkill County was in the store. Police responded and located Binder. It was verified that there was a bench warrant out for her arrest for failing to appear for court on a retail theft charge. She was taken to the Carbon County prison awaiting authorities from Schuylkill County to retrieve her.

Amy Louise Blocker, 24, of the 2000 block of N. Lehigh Street, Whitehall: Felony retail theft and providing false Information to a police officer.

According to the report, on Saturday Oct. 30, at about 3:43 p.m., police were dispatched to the Walmart Super Center for a report from loss prevention personnel who said they had a female in custody for retail theft. The female identified herself as an Alicia Blocker, and used her Social Security number and date of birth.

She was observed by loss prevention personnel taking paint brushes, placing them in her purse, then leaving the store. Police then took her into custody and she was transported back to the police station. There, she continued to identify herself as Alicia Blocker. However, an investigation by the arresting officer discovered that she was one Amy Louise Blocker.

Terese Geiges, 48, of Briarcrest Road Blakeslee: DUI, persistent disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and public drunkenness.

Robert Bruce Rimbey Jr., 55, of Blakeslee: Persistent disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and public drunkenness.

According to the report, at 2:01 a.m. Oct. 31, an officer was patrolling the area of Spring Hill Road when he saw a vehicle traveling in a careless manner as the vehicle turned right onto Packerton Dam Drive. The vehicle was swerving over the double yellow lines on Packerton Dam Drive and swerving over toward the white fog lines many times.

The vehicle continued onto Packerton Dam Drive and Mauch Chunk Street and the officer further saw the vehicle, as it got by the curve in the area of Spring Street, swerve over the white fog line toward the guard rail and then swerve back onto the roadway. A vehicle stop was then made.

Upon first contact with the driver, identified as Geiges, the officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath. She was asked to perform four field sobriety tests, and failed them. Geiges PBT reading was 0.111 percent.

She was then placed under arrest and transported to Lehighton hospital were she submitted to a blood test, which will be submitted to a lab to determine her exact BAC.

Additionally, Geiges had a passenger in the car, identified as Rimbey. He kept exiting the vehicle several times after being told to remain in the car. The vehicle which was stopped on Mauch Chunk Street and was parked at the intersection of Mauch Chunk Street, and Beaver Street. Upon the arrival of a tow truck, Rimbey again exited the vehicle, yelling expletives, and stood between the tow truck and the vehicle preventing the tow truck driver from removing the car. He was then placed under arrest, failed to comply, became combative and resisted arrest. He was subsequently arraigned before Kosciolek and jailed under $3,000 straight bail.

Kristy Nicole Rodgers, 18, of the 1300 block of Center St., Jim Thorpe: Harassment by physical contact.

According to the report, at about 8 a.m. on Oct. 31, police received a call to respond to McDonald's parking area for a report of a fight in progress between multiple people, some of which were McDonald's staff. Upon arrival the lone investigating officer identified those who were involved in the fight and the reason behind it. Females were involved and it revolved around text massages and jealousy over a male. As a result of a follow-up investigation, the main aggressor in the event was identified as Rodgers.

Criminal mischief to autos: At about 3 p.m. Oct. 29, a police officer responded to Leaser's Garage on Mahoning Drive West. Two vehicles parked in the lot had damage done to their windshields during the previous week. police are investigating.
