Tamaqua hires softball coach

Jillian Knoblauch Barron was named as Tamaqua head softball coach Tuesday night by the Tamaqua Area School Board.

Barron replaces Amanda Luna, who stepped down for personal reasons. Barron is a former Lady Raider athlete and softball player. She is the daughter of former Tamaqua softball coach Terry "Nails" Knoblauch and served as an assistant coach under Luna.

Barron's salary will be $2,800.

The board also approved the following coaching appointments.

Allen Graver, Tamaqua, head junior varsity baseball coach, $2,000.

Caleb Calarco, New Ringgold, assistant varsity baseball coach, $1,874.

Jay Pilla, Lake Hauto, assistant JV baseball coach, $1,027.

Frank Wenzel, New Ringgold, assistant junior high track and field coach, $2,800.

The board also approved the following volunteer coaches: Kyle Berezwick, Mahanoy Plane, girls basketball; George J. Sanchez, Tamaqua, wrestling; Craig Valentine, Tamaqua, baseball; and Dylan Peters, elementary teacher, baseball.
