Tamaqua driver facing DUI count

A Tamaqua driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one vehicle crash that occurred about 2:40 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 20, along SR209 south of Coal St., in Port Carbon.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said William Hedemann, 44, was driving a 2007 Ford Escape northbound from Pottsville and traveling into Port Carbon when the car went off the road on the left side and overturned and struck a billboard sign, coming to rest on its roof.

Hedemann was not injured. He was found to be under the influence and was placed under arrest. The DUI charge is pending, troopers said.
