Waving the white flag, 13 games back

Published November 24. 2010 05:00PM

Heading into the final week of our Grid Picks, I guess 13 games is a bit too much to make up on leader Andy Steinmetz at this point, so I guess I'll just have to settle on setting my sights on trying to pass Emmett McCall and staying ahead of TJ Engle and Bob Ford. With a 10-game cushion over Ford, I think I can safely say I won't finish last unless I completely collapse.

I said last week that it's probably down to a two-man race and it is with Joe Plasko just a pair of games behind front-runner Steinmetz. I don't know who made the picks for Jason Boris last week, but I don't ever remember him going 8-7.

With the Thanksgiving Day games on the card this week, the Grid Picks are in today's paper so we had to give them a quicker look that usual. here goes:

WILKES-BARRE GAR AT NORTHERN LEHIGH - Bulldogs can't avoid a letdown after that big, strong win over North Schuylkill last week. The season continues ... Northern Lehigh, 28-7.

WHITEHALL AT EASTON - Rovers will be playing their second game in three days so this one will be close ... Easton, 21-14.

ALLENTOWN CENTRAL CATHOLIC AT ABINGTON HEIGHTS - All I know is that the Vikings are the No. 1 ranked Class AAA team in the state ... Central Catholic, 24-14.

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN AT CALVARY CHRISTIAN - The Hurricanes always seem to play their best football in November ... Schuylkill Haven, 28-13.

NORTH PENN AT COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH - Always a pretty good matchup when these two District 1 teams meet ... North Penn, 28-16.

WEST CHESTER RUSTIN AT NESHAMINY - Too close to call here so I flipped a coin ... Neshaminy, 14-13.

STRATH HAVEN AT POTTSGROVE - Another one that should go right down to the final seconds ... Pottsgrove, 21-20.

CLEARFIELD AT SHIKELLAMY - Going with the team from Western PA in this one ... Clearfield, 22-10.

WYOMISSING AT TRINITY - Trinity put a whoopin' on Bermudian Springs last week so that convinced me they're for real ... Trinity, 35-7.

LEWISBURG AT DANVILLE - Two teams that I don't know too much about so I hit up my Bloomsburg area scout for this one, since both gave me wins last week ... Danville, 14-7.

RIVERSIDE AT SOUTHERN COLUMBIA - There were years when the Tigers were in the state final every time you turned around. Maybe this is one of those years ... Southern Columbia, 21-7.

MILLERSBURG AT HOLY NAME - I guess I'll flip the coin again on this one since I have no clue ... Reading Holy Name, 28-17.

EAST STROUDSBURG SOUTH AT STROUDSBURG - The end of an era for Fred Ross and it should lift the Mountaineers up for this one. I still like ... East Stroudsburg South, 28-14.

NORTHAMPTON AT CATASAUQUA - Rough Riders took a trip into the post-season which was a big plus and usually play tough at home. My vote goes for ... Northampton, 21-7.

PHILLIPSBURG AT EASTON - First of a pair for the Rovers catches them playing a pretty good Stateliner team ... Phillipsburg, 14-12.
