Crashes probed on I81 in Schuylkill

Two crashes were investigated along Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County on Thursday, Sept. 30.

State police at Frackville said a one vehicle crash occurred about 12:20 p.m in Mahanoy Township. Troopers said Patricia P. Gilroy, 75, of Harrisburg, was southbound when she lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle entered the median and struck several large rocks on an embankment. The vehicle came ot rest facing north in th median.

Gilroy was transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-E. Norwegian St., Pottsville, by Ryan Township ambulance for a complaint of back pain.

The second crash occurred about 1:05 p.m. in West Mahanoy Township, at the on ramp at SR61. Troopers said Albert R. Cuff, 59, of Bridgeton, N.J, was driving a 2007 International tractor with trailer on the on ramp to go northbound when he lost control while rounding a curve in the ramp. The rig rolled over onto the driver side in the right lane. The trailer portion was loaded with various groceries.

Cuff was injured and taken to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, by Shenandoah ambulance. The right travel line of the interstate was shutdown for several hours, troopers said.

Troopers said Cuff would be cited for a vehicle code violation.
