Trail is an asset for Carbon County

Published October 02. 2010 09:00AM

Dear Editor:

After recently reading how unemployment in Carbon County is over 11 percent and the 4th highest in the state I wanted to mention a success story.

The spring opening of the Delaware and Lehigh trail into Jim Thorpe and its termination at the county parking lot.

At a time when people are watching their expenses and cutting back we have seen an increase in our biking business and thus visitation to Jim Thorpe.

The trail extension has added convenience and freshness to the gorge ride, provided access to the Nesquehoning trestle, brought people back, attracted new riders and required us to hire more people.

On behalf of myself, the staff and guests of Pocono Biking I would like to thank commissioners Getz, O'Gurek and Nothstein, the D&L Heritage Corridor, and DCNR for their work and foresight in completing the trail.

The trail is a successful asset for Carbon County residents, visitors and businesses.

Thank you

Paul Fogal
