Nesquehoning man jailed

A Nesquehoning man was jailed after being arrested for retail theft.

Borough police chief Sean Smith was called to the Redners Warehouse Market on Friday, Oct. 1, about 11:15 a.m. for a theft incident. At the store Smith made contact wtih Kermit Sponheimer, 151 W. Columbus Ave., and charged him with taking merchandise valued at $7.78 without paying for it.

Smith also found Sponheimer in possession of prescription narcotics that were not his.

He was taken before District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek, of Lansford, and arraigned on a felony three count of retail theft. It was also learned that Sponheimer was on probation through the Carbon County Adult Probation Office for welfare fraud.

Bail was set at $5,000 straight cash. Sponheimer failed to post the bail and was committed to the county prison.
