Nesquehoning arrests reported

Nesquehoning police reported on the following arrests made by officers.

Officer Thomas Kurtz filed charges against Luis Rivas Flores, at the county prison, for institutional vandalism. A correctional officer was doing a search of Flores' cell at which time the defendant became irate and destroyed the prison water fountain by kicking it off the wall, police said. The fountain is valued at $790. The incident occurred on Sept. 3.

Officer Carl Breiner filed charges following an incident on Sept. 8. Bernard Stianche, of 153 1/2 E. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning, was charged with harassment, as a misdemeanor three, persistent disorderly conduct, (M3), and summary harassment.

It is alleged that Stianche was intoxicated and called 9-1-1 threatening and cursing at the dispatchers at the communications center. Breiner arrived at the residence and found Stianche using obscene language and threatening the officer.

Breiner filed charges following an incident on Oct. 5 about 2:54 a.m. Charges were filed against Cristian A. Castillo, of 403 E. Cranberry Ave., Hazleton, for driving under the influence (DUI), driving on roadways laned for traffic, driving on the right side of the road and minimum speed regulation-impeding the movement of traffic prohibited.

Breiner was on patrol by state routes 209 and 93 when he observed the defendant driving a minivan. The van was going about 15 miles-per-hour in a 40 zone and was weaving all over the road. Breiner conducted a traffic stop and found Castillo to be under the influence. Castillo refused to do field sobriety tests and also refused to submit to a chemical test.

Chief Smith filed charges against Rexvalore Ellison, 14 W. Broad St., Tamaqua, for an incident that occurred at the Dollar General store. Ellison was arrested for retail theft, driving under suspension, expired inspection sticker and expired registration plate.

According to Smith, Ellison was caught in the store with a Trac phone down his pants and jewelry in his pocket totaling $23 in value. The incident occurred on Sept. 19.

Smith filed charges against Jerry Zemlan, 206 W. Water St., Lansford, for an incident on Sept. 28 at the Top Star service station at 3 Stock St. Zemlan came into the store and allegedly stole a pack of cigarettes. He was charged with retail theft.
