Fairview Seniors

Fairview Seniors meet every second and fourth Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the Chestnuthill Park Building. Members make special items for patients both young and old.

At the next meeting a visual aid speaker will be featured.

Anniversary

celebration

The Western Pocono Women's Club will be celebrating 40 years of service to the community in 2011. Presently the club has 48 members, including five of the charter members who are still active in the club.

Throughout the years, club members have devoted countless hours serving the community by volunteering their time and raising funds to support community projects and organizations.

On Oct. 18, at 6 p.m. the club is sponsoring its annual new member covered dish dinner at the Effort United Methodist Church.

This invitation is open to area women, 18 years or older, who are seeking to serve the community while forming life-long friendships.

Band Parents

Pleasant Valley Band Parents will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 7, in the high school.

Blood drive

Effort United Methodist Church will be the site of an American Red Cross blood drive from 2-7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 11. The drive is being hosted by Tabitha Scerbo in memory of her grandmother and congregation member, LuJeanne Holland.

There is a sign-up sheet in the church narthex's Welcome Center, but walk-ins are welcome.

Lions board

The Western Pocono Lions Club board will meet at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 6, at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.

All Lions are welcome.

Methodist Women

The United Methodist Women of Effort UMC will hold an International Dinner, at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, as its program. Joyce Aylsworth will lead the devotions.

Grief support

A Grief Support Group, open to anyone in the community, is offered at Effort United Methodist Church. It will run for 11 weeks and meet at 11 a.m. or at 7 p.m., beginning Wednesday, Oct. 6. For more information call the church at (570) 629-1890.

Food drive

The Boy Scouts Food Drive will be held in early November. On Nov. 6 the tags are dropped off, and Nov. 13 the food is picked up.

Area food pantries have many clients so the need is great.

World Sight Day

The Western Pocono Lions Club will participate in National World Sight day on Oct. 14, which is an annual day of awareness to focus global attention to blindness, visual impairment, and rehabilitation of the visually impaired.

The club features the following eyeglass collection sites: Kinsley's Shop-Rite; ESSA Bank; KNBT Bank; First National Bank of Sciota; The Hamilton Restaurant; The Brodheadsville Post Office; Wachovia Bank and Western Pocono Community Library.
