Traffic stops lead to criminal charges
Three separate traffic stops by members of the Pocono Mountain Regional police has led to criminal charges.
On Friday, Oct. 1, about 10:34 p.m. officers stopped a black Ford Taurus along Summit Ave. at Fifth Ave., in Pocono Summit, Coolbaugh Township, for a vehicle code violation. The driver was identified as Joseph McBride, 43, of Pocono Summit.
He was found to be under the influence and failed field sobriety tests. He placed under arrest for driving under the influence (DUI) and was then taken to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results.
Officers also learned that McBride's license is currently under suspension-DUI related.
About 7:59 p.m. on Friday officers observed a vehicle cross the double yellow line along Laurel Road at Pope Road, in Coolbaugh Township. A traffic stop was made and the driver identified as Joseph Musacchio, 27, of Blakely.
Further investigation revealed, with the use of K-9 Niko, a bag of marijuana found under the driver's seat along with drug paraphernalia.
Musacchio will be charged with possession, police said.
On Saturday, Oct. 2, about 3:40 p.m. officers stopped a car along Interstate 80 westbound in Tobyhanna for careless driving. The driver was identified as Jay Mavadia, 20, of Edison, N.J. A further investigation led police to use K-9 Niko who alerted officers to a backpack in which marijuana was found along with drug paraphernalia.
Police said Mavadia will be charged with possession of marijuana.
