Bulldogs, Tigers, Bombers get soccer wins

Northern Lehigh, Northwestern and Palmerton all posted boys soccer victories on Wednesday.

BOYS SOCCER

No. Lehigh-Catasauqua

Jimmy Bilger scored a goal in overtime to lift Northern Lehigh to a 2-1 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.

Channing Shiffert put the Bulldogs (4-11) on the board first with a first-half goal.

NDES-Northwestern

Northwestern scored three second-half goals and ran away from Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg, 4-0, in Colonial League play.

The Tigers received goals from Jeremy Ettl, Curtis Cappuccino, Nick Misera and Josh Breckenridge.

Goalie Talon Williams needed to make only five saves.

Pen Argyl-Palmerton

On Senior Night, Palmerton doubled up on Pen Argyl for a 4-2 Colonial League victory.

Nate Binder led the Bombers offensively with two goals. Adam Berger and Garrett Scott added single scores. Trevor Sherman and Derek Furry were all credited with assists.

Brett Snyder grabbed 15 saves between the Bombers' posts.

GIRLS SOCCER

Jim Thorpe-Pine Grove

Kristin Lawrence had a hat trick to lead Jim Thorpe to a 4-2 Schuylkill League victory over Pine Grove.

Larence got a pair of first half goals to give the Olympians a 2-0 lead. Erica Smith scored early in the second half to extend the Olympians' lead. After Pine Grove closed to within 3-2, Lawrence capped her big day with a late insurance goal.

Caitlin Liscinski had two assists for Jim Thorpe and Jen Rusbarsky added one.

CROSS COUNTRY

Meet at Marian

Tamaqua finished 3-1 on the day at a Schuylkill League meet at Marian, while the hosts were swept.

Amber Carroll, Schuyler Schmidt and Cecily Kohlmeir paced the Lady Raiders by crossing the finish line 1-2-3, while Coleen Rorke finished off the top-five in fifth. Molly Balliet captured a Fillies' best finishing in fourth.

Phil Marzen led the Colts with a second-place performance, while Tamaqua's Jody Rudy and Philip Christman had a third and fifth.

Meet atPalmerton

Northwestern traveled to Palmerton to take part in a Colonial League meet.

The Tigers' Tyler Stelmack crossed the finish line first in the boys' meet. Teammate Tyler Malay finished in third place. Kevin Seemiller paced the Bombers by finishing 18th.

Haley Yost led the Lady Tigers with a fifth place finish while teammate Emma Kemmerer ended up in seventh. The Bombers' Andrea Stafko finished in 11th.

CMVT-Shenandoah Vy.-Weatherly

While the Weatherly girls did not compete due to a lack of runners, the Weatherly boys went 1-1 in their cross country match with Columbia Montour Vo-Tech and Shenandoah Valley.

Andy Vack won the boys' race for the locals, finishing with a time of 19:30. He beat out Shenandoah's Steve Dziedziak by four seconds. Teammate Dylan Ashworth also finished in the top ten. He placed ninth with a time of 21:05.

Northern Lehigh recorded a 3-7 mark as a team at a Colonial League meet at Palisades.

The Lady Bulldogs scored wins over Notre Dame (ES) (15-50) and Salisbury (23-34), while the Bulldogs edged Salisbury 17-40.

Sam Corcoran led the Lady Bulldogs with a sixth place finish in a time of 20:12. Teammate Rachel Barnett ended up in 20th (21:45).

Austin Danish paced the Bulldogs with a 11th place finish with a time of 17:01.

VOLLEYBALL

Minersville-Marian

Marian swept Minersville in its Schuylkill League volleyball match, 25-15, 25-6, 25-17.

Rachel Krajcirik had a big night for the Fillies (11-0), as she finished with 33 assists, 17 service points, six aces and four digs.

Teammate MaryKate Sherkness added eight kills, eight digs and four aces, while Taylor Mele had 11 kills, seven digs and two aces.

Marian's JV also won, 25-11, 25-9.
