Nesquehoning
Zion Lutheran Church
Morning worship begins at 9 a.m. Sunday at Zion Lutheran Church, Nesquehoning.
The congregation will welcome the Rev. Durrell Seip to the pulpit. Pastor Hazel is on vacation Oct. 24-31. The Rev. Marjorie Keiter will cover, (570) 645-0356.
The Luther Day Dinner will be held on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Third and Fell Street, Weatherly. Entertainment will be provided by Debi Wahl. Make reservations with David Hawk by Sunday, Oct. 24.
Church council will meet on Monday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m.
Lansford
Trick or Treat
Trick-or-Treat Night will be held in town on Sunday, Oct. 31 from 6-8 p.m. Residents accepting children into their homes are asked to have their porch and properties well-lighted. Added police patrols have been scheduled in order to help make sure the event is a successful one.
Borough meetings
The Lansford Borough Council has five committee meetings planned for next week. They are as follows:
Public safety committee 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25.
Public works committee, 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25.
Municipal administration committee 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, in the borough office.
Parks and recreation committee 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28.
Community development, planning, zoning and ordinance committee, 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28.
All of the meetings will take place in the Lansford Community Center, unless otherwise noted.
Blood drive results
The recent Miller-Keystone blood drive sponsored by St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, was a huge success.
A total of 44 pints of blood were collected. The event was coordinated by John Karnish.
The next drive to be sponsored by the church will take place on Monday, Feb. 21.
St. Vincent de Paul
The St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, helps to provide food to the needy. Members are collecting nonperishable food items that they donate to the town food pantry.
Among the suggested items are peanut butter, jelly, crackers, canned fruit, cereal, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, tuna, beef stew, soups, instant potatoes, macaroni and cheese and other canned items. They can be dropped off at the church.
Summit Hill
Heritage center
The Summit Hill Heritage Center is in need of several "wish list" items, including: plastic cutting boards (medium size), dish towels, dish cloths, shovels, brooms, a ladder, a mat for the narthex and a computer, printer and copier.

Shade Tree planting
The Summit Hill Shade Tree Commission will conduct its annual fall street planting on Oct. 28-29. For more information, contact Lou Vermillion, (570) 645-9772, or John Kupec, 645-9644.
St. Paul Lutheran
The schedule for St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, for Sunday, Oct. 24, is as follows: Sunday school, 9 a.m.; collating of an informational letter for mailing to the congregation, 9 a.m. (volunteers needed); and worship service, 10:30 a.m.
The Rev. John Hazel Jr., pastor, will be away from Oct. 24-30. Anyone in need of pastoral assistance during this time is asked to call the Rev. Marjorie Keiter, (570) 645-0356.
Legion to meet
The monthly meeting of American Legion Post 316, Summit Hill, will be held Monday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the post home. Commander W. Kevin O'Donnell will be in charge of the session. A meeting of the Home Association will immediately follow the post's meeting.
Methodist Charge
The schedule for the Coaldale/Summit Hill United Methodist Charge for Sunday, Oct. 24, is as follows:
Worship services will be held at 9 a.m. in the Summit Hill United Methodist Church and at 11 a.m. in the Coaldale United Methodist Church. The Rev. Burgess Gordon, pastor, will officiate at both services.
The adult Sunday school will be held at 10 a.m. in the Coaldale church.
SHCIO to meet
The Summit Hill Community Improvement Organization meets at 7 p.m. on the first Monday of each month in the Summit Hill Borough Hall. The next meeting is scheduled for Nov. 1.
Borough council
The monthly meeting of the Summit Hill Borough Council will be held on Monday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. in the borough hall. Joseph Weber, president, will be in charge of the meeting.

First Congregational Church
Services and activities at First Congregational Church, Coaldale, for next week are as follows: Sunday, Oct. 24 - 9 a.m. Morning Worship; 10 a.m. Sunday School; Wednesday, Oct. 27 - 6:30 p.m. Choir rehearsal; 7 p.m. Bible study; Sunday, Oct. 31 - 9 a.m. Morning Worship; 10 a.m. Sunday School; Samaritan's Purse gifts for children around the world are being collected until Nov. 14. They will be boxed by the Youth Group and sent to needy children.
